What is selling?

[Reading Time: < 1 minute]

At Accent on Demand, we spend a lot of time helping client sales reps figure out how to actually sell. Sometimes that’s a solo founder trying to get traction, sometimes it’s a room full of reps with targets to hit. Either way, we’re not big on the old-school sales routines — pressure tactics, slick pitches, and trying to “win” the call. That stuff doesn’t work anymore.

What we teach is a little simpler: sales is just a clear, honest education for the prospect. Your job is to help them understand what’s really going on, what your service actually does, and whether or not the two fit together.

When we coach salespeople, we use a simple framework that comes into play across the sales funnel, but it really sharpens during the live conversation — the moment where everything either clicks or falls apart.

We call it H.E.L.P.:

H – Hear what’s really going on

Get to the root of the problem — even if the prospect hasn’t fully named it yet.

E – Evaluate fit honestly

Don’t sell it just because you can. Be real about whether your service actually helps.

L – Lay out the value clearly

Make it easy to understand. Not just how it works, but why it matters.

P – Provide insight, not pressure

Respond to questions by teaching, not closing. Help them learn what you know.

The whole process works best when every touchpoint builds trust. No gimmicks. No big show. Just useful conversations that lead somewhere real.

And if you want people to remember what you said? Use stories. They carry more weight than stats and they stick with people long after the call is over.
